Duke Energy, City of Pinellas Park team up to help local residents save energy and money this summer

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – With summer officially underway, Duke Energy and the City of Pinellas Park are launching a joint awareness campaign encouraging local residents to complete a free Home Energy Check and get personalized recommendations to help them save energy – and money.

Leading the way:

Yesterday, a City of Pinellas Park employee led the way for his neighbors and those he serves by completing a Home Energy Check at his own home. Like all residential customers who undergo a free assessment:

  • He was provided with a detailed report outlining the Duke Energy advisor’s findings and opportunities to improve his home’s energy efficiency.

  • He will receive an energy efficiency kit – mailed to his home at no cost – containing products like LED light bulbs and a refrigerator/freezer thermometer, which can be put to use immediately.

  • He is now eligible for up to $3,800 in rebates on a range of upgrades, including adding more attic insulation, repairing a faulty HVAC system and installing energy-efficient windows.

Note: B-roll and interview footage from this Home Energy Check are available for download here and here. Additional energy efficiency B-roll can be downloaded here and here.

A team of Duke Energy advisors will be onsite at Pinellas Park City Hall on Thursday, June 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help with Home Energy Check signups and share more tips, resources and programs that can help residential customers reduce their energy use and, in turn, lower their bills.

Our view:

  • Duke Energy Florida State President Melissa Seixas: “Duke Energy is proud to work with the City of Pinellas Park to spread the word about Home Energy Checks. We want our customers to have the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their energy use and save money wherever possible – especially as temperatures continue to climb and AC systems work harder and harder to keep up. Our expert advisors are ready and eager to help, so please don’t wait to reach out.”

  • City of Pinellas Park Mayor Sandra Bradbury: “Every year, we see the impact the summer spike in energy use has on our bills – so why not help offset it if we can? Home Energy Checks are a first step toward doing just that and easing the overall burden on our wallets at a time when it seems like costs are rising everywhere, from the grocery store to the gas pump. I’m grateful that Duke Energy offers this service and is making sure Pinellas Park residents – and all eligible customers – can take advantage of it.”
