ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Duke Energy Florida’s “Duke Energy in Action” volunteer team will share holiday cheer with Bay Pines VA Healthcare System’s veterans on Dec. 18.
The “army of blue” represents Duke Energy employee volunteers known for their blue “Duke Energy in Action” shirts. Approximately 80 employees are volunteering their time for this event.
“Duke Energy in Action highlights the impact our employees have on the communities we serve," said Alex Glenn, Duke Energy state president – Florida. “It represents the passion for volunteering that is part of who we are and our company’s legacy.”
The Duke Energy Foundation will also present the Abilities Foundation with a surprise award. The Abilities Foundation has provided exceptional employment and housing services to persons with disabilities for 56 years.
“Community partners and volunteers play an important role across our healthcare system, and truly make an impact in the lives of many,” said Jason Dangel, public affairs officer, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System. “We are very grateful for the unwavering support of Duke Energy’s volunteer force, and their dedication to Tampa Bay area veterans.”
Duke Energy Florida’s commitment to volunteering goes beyond the holiday Bay Pines VA Healthcare System event. Its employees volunteered more than 45,000 hours within the last five years.
In addition, the company donated more than $2.5 million to Florida charitable organizations in 2015. Since 2000, Duke Energy has given more than $55 million to Florida non-profits.
