Public encouraged to #ThankALineman
CINCINNATI – After you get over your “case of the Mondays” and file your taxes, Duke Energy has one simple request: #ThankALineman.
Today, April 18, is National Lineman Appreciation Day. Approved by Congress and affirmed by lawmakers in Columbus and Frankfort, the day is intended to honor line workers and their roles in building, maintaining and restoring service that powers the lives of our customers.
“As a society, we view linemen as superheroes as they work to restore power after a storm,” said Jim Henning, president of Duke Energy Ohio and Kentucky. “Our linemen are heroes 24/7. Each day, they work hard to keep the power flowing safely throughout Greater Cincinnati.”
Ohio, Kentucky lawmakers recognize linemen as “brave men and women”
Ohio Governor John Kasich and Lieutenant Governor Mary Taylor signed a resolution to recognize linemen across Ohio today.
According to the document, “Duke Energy linemen are often first responders during storms and other catastrophic events, working to make the scene safe for other public officials.”
In honor of National Lineman Appreciation Day, Kasich and Taylor, “encourage all Ohioans to join us in recognizing the efforts of linemen in keeping the power on and protecting public safety.”
Additionally, a Kentucky’s House of Representatives resolution states, “Linemen put their lives on the line every day with little recognition from the community regarding the danger of their work.”
“Lineman Mitch” to be “Honorary Captain Mitch” at Monday’s Reds game
In honor of National Lineman Appreciation Day, the Cincinnati Reds selected Duke Energy Lineman Mitch Nelson as the “honorary captain” for tonight’s game at Great American Ball Park. Prior to the game, Nelson will be on the field to represent hundreds of Duke Energy linemen – many of whom will be in the stands cheering on the Reds.
