Nearly one year ago, Hurricane Helene and Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida within just weeks, impacting nearly 2 million customers. The two storms resulted in an unprecedented level of activation as Duke Energy Florida mobilized nearly 25,000 workers and resources to restore outages. Most outages were restored within 72 hours of the storm strikes.

Today marks the mid-point of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, and Duke Energy Florida is highlighting the company’s smart, self-healing technology and its significant benefits to customers.

While the 2025 hurricane season began on June 1, Duke Energy Florida has been preparing year-round, strengthening the company’s infrastructure and employing smart tools to help prevent power outages and allow for quicker restoration for its 2 million customers.

As summer heat ramps up, Duke Energy Foundation has awarded $400,000 to agencies that connect customers in need with utility assistance.

As summer’s first heat wave brought triple-digit temperatures to parts of North Carolina and South Carolina this week, Duke Energy thanks customers for conserving energy during periods of peak demand.

The updates were approved by the North Carolina Utilities Commission (NCUC) and launched on Jan. 1, 2025.

Duke Energy has commissioned its new Duke Energy + Electrada Fleet Mobility Microgrid in Mount Holly, a first-of-its-kind electrification center for commercial and public electric fleet vehicles. The project is the first of its kind in the country to offer a zero-emission, carbon-free microgrid option for fleet charging.

While Florida grappled with back-to-back hurricanes this fall, Duke Energy’s year-round grid-strengthening work and advanced technology helped to reduce outage impacts for customers, enabling swift restorations.
