Duke Energy is monitoring and preparing for a severe weather system expected to move through the Carolinas Sunday, which may cause widespread power outages.

Duke Energy Florida and its staff of meteorologists are closely monitoring the approaching tropical storm-like weather expected this weekend and making preparations to respond as quickly as possible should customers in Florida experience any disruptions in their service. Piedmont Natural Gas today announced it is contributing $50,000 to organizations helping Nashville residents recover from tornadoes that hit the area Dec. 9.

Duke Energy Florida will reduce customer rates in 2024. Today, the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) unanimously approved Duke Energy’s request to lower rates starting in January 2024. A typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh will see a decrease in their January 2024 bill of $11.29, or about 6%, when compared to December 2023.

Duke Energy’s utilities in South Carolina are proposing new and enhanced energy efficiency programs to help customers save energy and money, expanding on the companies’ industry-leading success in implementing programs that to date have saved more than 3.5 billion kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity and $6.5 billion for customers in the Carolinas.

The Duke Energy Foundation is dedicating an additional $100,000 in financial assistance to Florida customers to help pay their energy bills this holiday season. The funding is made possible through the company’s Share the Light Fund®, which helps individuals and families in need.
