SENECA AND SALEM, S.C. - Duke Energy has completed improvement work at a number of the recreation and public access areas located on Lake Keowee in Oconee County and Lake Jocassee in Pickens County.
The projects recently completed on Lake Keowee are the Stamp Creek access area, Keowee Town access area, South Cove County Park and Mile Creek County Park.
Improvements include adding courtesy docks to existing boat ramps, installing handicap accessible vault toilets, adding and enhancing picnic sites, improving handicap accessibility, upgrading lighting, and expanding parking.
A handicap accessible fishing pier was added to the Stamp Creek access area as well. The pier includes fish-friendly habitats beneath it.
Improvements at Devils Fork State Park on Lake Jocassee include installing handicap accessible vault toilets and new boat launch ramps, and adding trash/recycling collection areas and picnic sites.
"These upgrades were done with quality, sustainability and long term maintenance considerations in mind," said John Crutchfield, director public safety recreation strategy and planning services for Duke Energy.
"The improvements are a continuation of the work we began in 2011 to make public access improvements on Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee," he added. "These new amenities are going to make public visits to Lake Keowee and Lake Jocassee easier and more pleasant."
