In 2025 alone, self-healing technology helped avoid 100,000 outages for Indiana customers

Nearly half of company’s Indiana service territory now served by the innovative technology
PLAINFIELD, Ind. – We’re in the midst of Indiana’s storm season, which runs from March to June. Duke Energy Indiana’s investments in advanced “self-healing” technology will make a difference in keeping the lights on for customers.
What is self-healing technology?
- It’s advanced technology that works like the GPS in a car – it automatically detects power outages and quickly reroutes power to restore service faster or even avoid the outage altogether.
- It can help to reduce the number of customers affected by an outage by as much as 75% and can often restore power in less than a minute. (Click here for a visual demonstration.)
By the numbers:
- In 2025 alone, self-healing technology helped avoid 100,000 outages for Indiana customers, saving around 350,000 hours of total outage time.
- Around 45% of Duke Energy Indiana customers currently benefit from self-healing technology – that’s nearly four times the number of customers served by this innovative technology in 2022.
Our view:
“Duke Energy will continue to expand self-healing technology in Indiana this year, helping deliver smarter, stronger and more resilient power on both ‘blue-sky days’ and during severe weather,” said Stan Pinegar, president, Duke Energy Indiana. “For our customers, that means fewer outages, faster restoration and a more reliable experience year-round.”
