Organizations team up to help create career-ready graduates
GREENVILLE, S.C. – Piedmont Natural Gas will welcome 23 students from Wade Hampton High School to its Greenville resource center today as part of a new job shadowing program, the first organized by Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina.
Today’s site visit is the culmination of a larger program designed to help students prepare for careers after graduation.
Students who participate in this program are enrolled in Professional Leadership and Development, an elective at Wade Hampton High School.
Local Piedmont Natural Gas employee Chris Byers has partnered with teacher Anjosia Ellerbe to co-facilitate the job shadowing program, and students already have completed sessions on mock job interviews, resume-writing skills and business etiquette.
“Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina is excited to collaborate with Piedmont Natural Gas and Greenville County Schools on the job shadowing initiative,” said Susan Spencer, director of education and volunteers for Junior Achievement of Upstate South Carolina. “This is a great example of the partnerships Junior Achievement forges with the business community, educators, foundations and volunteers, all working together to inspire young people to dream big and reach their potential.”
“Piedmont Natural Gas is pleased to welcome all of the students participating in the job shadowing program,” said Mike Durham, community relations manager for Piedmont Natural Gas. “Piedmont is committed to strengthening the communities where we live and work, and preparing our young people to be competitive in the global economy of the 21st century is a critical responsibility we all share.”
