CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In honor of Earth Day, Piedmont Natural Gas is giving away free tree seedlings at local farmers markets and festivals in Charlotte and Wilmington, N.C.; Greenville, S.C.; and Nashville, Tenn.

As a part of its commitment to sustainability and being a good community partner, Piedmont representatives will be distributing free tree seedlings at events in its four largest markets during the week leading up to Earth Day, which will be observed this year on Sunday, April 22.

“Piedmont is committed to being a good steward of the environment and a champion of sustainability in our own business practices and in the communities we serve,” said Barbara Ashford, director of community relations for Piedmont Natural Gas. “Earth Day is an important reminder that all of us can play a part in building a sustainable future, even something as simple as planting a tree that not only benefits the environment but adds natural beauty to our world.”

The following tree giveaway events are planned:

  • Downtown Alive in Greenville on Thursday, April 19, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
  • Nashville’s Earth Day Festival, Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Downtown Wilmington’s Riverfront Farmers Market, Saturday, April 21, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Attached to the seedlings will be a message from Piedmont encouraging people to call 811 before digging anywhere on their property. Dialing 811 connects callers with a free, national service that makes it easy to schedule a crew that will locate and mark all buried utilities.
